Many of us have plants growing in containers and today we have some tips about how to keep them looking beautiful all season long. Container gardening is an increasingly popular way of growing your favourite plants in a given area. The growing growing techniques in this video are very easy to follow, and don’t forget the popular thriller, filler, spiller planting formula!
Tips
- Synthetic containers may not have holes in the bottom, so you need to make some if they are not already there in the container. If you don’t do this, when you water or rains the container can fill up with water and kill your plants.
- Deep containers use a lot of soil and that can be expensive, but you can use plastic pots that your plants came in or if they come in polystyrene trays break that up and put it in the bottom so that you use less soil.
- Add some slow release fertilizer.
- Plants like Canna can add a tropical feel to your container but will need protection from frosts.
- When you’re planting your container look for different textures to give the container interest.
- You can use matching and contrasting colours and think about the colour of your container.
- Containers tend to dry out quickly so don’t forget to water them.
