Growing Seeds
Seeds are a satisfying and cheaper alternative to buying flower and vegetable seedlings in spring. Starting seeds indoors gives you control over crop timing, as well as a greater selection of varieties and in the depths of winter you can settle down in the warm and look through the seed catalogues, imagining all the new varieties that you would like to try. When planting seeds in a container, be sure to pack down the soil lightly, bury the seed as deep as it is long, and keep the soil moist through the germination process.
