Bedding roses such as hybrid tea and floribundas get hard pruned in late winter/early spring.

Some spring-flowering shrubs, such as philadelphus and forsythia, become straggly and untidy unless pruned every year.

In general, Rhododendrons require little pruning, but if your Rhododendron has become leggy you can prune it.
